Be Kind To Someone Today!
This week’s article is going to be another non rocket science moment. It comes from me having what I call a “sofa slug” day. A blah day where nothing gets done. Yesterday I spent all day on the sofa watching t.v. or sleeping…I had two naps which did nothing to make me feel better.
For me it’s a combination of being busy mentally for too long and I’ve had enough winter. I’m ready for spring…the season of green and the rebirth of Mother Nature. As much as I love the season of snow, I need some green! Grass, trees and flowers I need to walk in the green woods!
And you know what…a sofa slug day is ok. Time to recharge or just let your mind go to mush…it will come together again!
So today I decided to do something about it. I did my morning routine then got dressed and headed out. I needed a few groceries so that’s where I went.
Now I have learned that when I get in sofa slug mode, I need to be around people, even as an introvert a little people time is good for me. I’ve also learned that helping someone, even in a small way makes me feel better.
So that was my mission, to put a smile on someone’s face…as corny as that sounds.
Having worked retail, I know the abuse retail workers put up with, so I often speak to them more than just the usual… hello, thanks…bye.
One store I go to, the same young woman is working, and she puts up with people grumbling about all the self check outs. Yet she always gives me a huge smile when I leave. So I stop and thank her for being so pleasant. She lights up even more, you can tell she’s not used to hearing positive comments.
I said this once to a check out worker and she told me I made her day. I said…”Well then…I guess my work here is done!” We both laughed and I told her I appreciated her and went on my way. I felt better, she felt better, it was a win win situation.
I also held the door for a young mother today struggling with a stroller. She looked surprised and grateful saying thank you. I said…”You’re welcome, I remember the stroller struggles…lol” We laughed and she thanked me again. I said…”Have a good day” I almost went into retail mode but caught myself from saying…”Come back and see us again soon…lol”
It really is such a small easy to do task to add to your day. Like I said…it isn’t rocket science.
It pulled me out of sofa slug mode and that was the purpose. The upside is, it helped someone else at the same time. Mission accomplished! Give it a try, I bet it becomes common practice for you too!
