An Extra Shiny Star
As we go through our lives, we cross paths with many people. Some are a flash in the pan and soon forgotten. Some we lose and wish we’d had more time with, while others we wish we had never met, but we know they were there to teach us lessons, even if it’s what NOT to do.
And then there are the ones that come along and amaze us!
The truly extra shiny star.
I have come to know one such woman.
She gives her time and her own money to a charity and group of other women that are very dear to her.
The local women’s shelter.
Having been in an abusive relationship herself years ago, she knows all too well what can happen.
And so she raises money for our local women’s shelter…among other women related organizations.
She has raised thousands of dollars over the years for the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes organization.
A few years back she started putting together purses and shoe boxes full of personal items to give out at Christmas. And now she puts things together to give out to those in need all year long.
A lot of the time it comes out of her own pocket, but she does ask for donations as well.
I donated some handmade photo cards that I used to make, and she was thrilled. And like the shiny star she is, she wrote a personal message in each and every one. There must have been over a hundred if there was one! Amazing!
She is one of the most inspiring women I have ever met.
Kind and generous, she is always looking out for women to help.
She really is the poster child for my mantra…Empowered women inspire others to thrive!
I have always thought of women’s shelters as being a safe haven for super heroes.
Women that have made the terrifying leap of faith to leave abusive men. I think it must be the ultimate fear of the unknown.
They are super heroes for taking that scary leap.
To protect their children they must trust in strangers, when trust is a foreign feeling for them.
So anyone that champions a cause like a women’s shelter, is an extra shiny star in my books.
And I think it’s important to give a shout out to those that go above and beyond…expecting nothing in return.
Tabz…You are a Shiny Star!
Thank you for all you do!
Life Experience Wisdom
* Look for ways to help other women. Donating items to a women’s shelter is a great start.
* Look for other things to donate to like walk a thons. Christmas is a perfect time to find a cause.
* Help by giving your time or cash if you can.
* Get a group of friends together and brainstorm for a cause.
* With the state of the economy, food banks are needing help even more, which is always a good cause all year long.
There is strength in numbers and a group of empowered women helping others is a force to be reckoned with!
Be an extra shiny star when you can!
That’s it for this week, Cheers til next time!
