Kids and Life Lessons
I’m not sure what it is lately, but my articles have been starting out one way and changing ten different ways to Sunday, before I settle on a topic!
So I think I’ll do this article in list form and cover a broader range of ideas.
This one is for parents, new or experienced.
Five things to teach your kids, so they are happy and successful in life.
Now maybe I am thinking about kids and life lessons as I’m a Grandma now, (or the fact the neighbour kids could use a few life lessons…lol)
Sitting at my desk looking at the picture of the little sleeping angel that is my granddaughter, I think back to my own kids. I think of the lessons that I taught them and ones I wish I had taught them. As parents we always wish we could do better and I wish my teaching methods had been better at times.
So take it from me…learn and move on.
Having said that, Parents…it is so important to lead by example.
Show them good habits by your own actions. Kids are sponges for what they see and hear!
Here are a few life lessons…
Teach them to handle their emotions.
Start at an early age to get them to talk out issues that bother them.
Teach them to recognize that they are having meltdown moments, and help them figure out why.
Resilience.
Show them it’s ok to fail, teach them to try again. Fail, learn, try again should be normalized. The world will not end if you fail at something.
Charity.
Teaching kids about charity shows them how to be kind and compassionate to others.
As a family pick a charity and decide what to donate.
When mine were little we donated to World Vision. The kids loved to decide what to donate from the catalogue that came every Christmas.
Independence and Responsibility.
Give your kids age appropriate chores around the house. It will help build self confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
Gratitude.
Of course this one is my favourite!
Teach your kidlets to appreciate what they have by being grateful for things you have and receive.
You will be teaching contentment which will lead to an inner peace and good mental health.
And what parent doesn’t want that for their child!
Life Experience Wisdom
