Hear Me Roar!

Hear Me Roar!

Now when I say Hear Me Roar, I’m not ranting and raving at someone.

I’m saying Look What I Can Do!

This comes from memories of a song from the 1970’s that I grew up with.

It’s about women empowerment.

Lines like “I am woman, hear me roar” and “I am strong, I am invincible, If I have to, I can do anything”

Use your googler for Helen Reddy I am Woman for full song lyrics.

Little did I know then that that song would come to be my mantra in my 50’s and 60’s.

Funny how life lemons work isn’t it?!

I’ve come to call them my “Hear Me Roar” moments.

Those moments when you accomplish something however small, that you have never done before on your own.

I’ll always remember my first Hear Me Roar moment.

Pumping gas for my car.

I purposely went to a small gas station outside of town in the evening, so no one would see me if I messed up somehow.

Thinking about that now, it likely wasn’t the smartest thing to do on my own, so I’ll just add that to the list of stupid things I’ve done in my life.  (The list is long.)

My biggest Hear Me Roar moment happened when I bought my first car all on my own. I found it online at a dealership near me.  I pulled out on the highway to go home, and one of my favourite songs came on the radio.  Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane.  I kid you not.

I felt on top of the world!  I’ll never forget it.  A Hear Me Roar moment for sure!

Over the years on my own I’ve had many small moments.

Car related…car washes, fluid fill ups, garage maintenance appointments. Etc.

House related…finding apartments twice, finding and hiring movers, packing and unpacking all on my own, taking the garbage out, and soon to be mowing the lawn.  (My Dude offered to cut the lawn and he likely will at times, but I told him I need to do it first, I need the Hear Me Roar moment) Update to the lawn mowing…I’ll be doing it myself…I finished and wanted to go around and cut all the neighbours lawns! I love doing it!

All small things to most people I’m sure, but huge to a first timer.
