Anxiety and Ways to Cope

Anxiety and Ways to Cope

As I’m writing this the temperature outside at 9 am is humid and about 350 degrees, like my oven at dinner time.

When did Canada become the Costa Rica of the north.  My brain doesn’t cope well when it’s so hot, which makes me anxious for some reason.

And I find myself turning to my anxiety coping list, which made me think I should do a reminder list for my blog.

As always for any medical advice consult your Doctor.

So I’ll get right to the point for this week’s article.

These are tips that work for me, and may be of benefit to you.

Six tips I use to cope with anxiety

*  Stop and breathe.  Just get yourself comfortable and do some deep breathing.  Relax  your forehead, cheeks, mouth and jaw, one at a time to release tension and breathe deeply over and over.

*  Get active.  Go for a walk, do some stretching exercises, yoga, whatever you can do to move your body.  Put on some upbeat music and dance!

*  Eat healthy.  Nothing wrong with a treat once in a while, but in general eat healthy to keep your brain happy.  Drink water instead of sugary drinks.

*  Write out your thoughts.  It will help slow down your thinking and put your over active mind on a slow roll.  That’s how I started writing and journaling.

*  Get your mind on something else.  It will want to keep you in Negative Nellie doomsday mode, so you need to push it to a happier place.  Go to your hobbies, or start a new one. (I color now, there are some amazing and easy to follow YouTube videos to watch.)  Listen to your favorite music, whether it’s calming or upbeat, whatever works for you. (I listen to YouTube music and color to relax before bed too!)  Watch funny, pet, or inspirational videos too. YouTube is a gold mine of things to learn and do to help.

*  Recognize what’s happening.  If your anxiety leads to panic attacks as mine does, acknowledge it and say out loud,  “I’m having a panic attack, I’ve had them before.  I know it is temporary and it will pass. I will keep deep breathing until it passes.

Life Experience Wisdom

*  Breathe, breathe and breathe again.

*  You can deal with anxiety, you have some tools to works with.

*  And as always consult your Doctor for help when you need it.

Short and sweet this week, I’m going to go breathe and color to help my own anxiety today!

Cheers til next time,

Grace
