Back on Track – Again
Life is about resetting, getting back up after a life lemon smacks you in the head, and changing your mind set from a negative one to a positive one.
Rinse and repeat as often as you need to. And go easy on yourself for doing so.
And that applies to me too.
I try to practice what I preach. So the other day after a few non walking days I decided to get back to my walking routine, once again.
I was going through tough days after losing my little dog, and that life lemon is a hard one.
So off I go, it was a beautiful fresh day, not an oppressive humid heat day. Those days are like walking around with an elephant strapped to my chest when you have asthma like I do.
I took my route around a few blocks where I live which is quiet most days with just the usual people out doing yard work or sitting on their porches enjoying the day.
Now for the last few months, none of the regulars had been around, it had been oddly people free.
But today was different.
My first regular was sitting on her porch and when I looked over, she started waving wildly at me like I was just coming home from war. She hadn’t seen me in ages and wanted to say hello.
Well that was sweet. A quick visit and I’m back walking.
Now the next people encounter was strange to say the least.
I was coming up to a quiet intersection and when I crossed I looked to my left and a man was running at full throttle! Like a race horse out of the gate with his butt on fire. And he was coming straight for me. He wasn’t slowing down to get through the intersection, so I quickened my pace as I imagined what damage he would do to me if we collided. He blew right through without slowing down, good thing it’s a quiet street with little traffic. I turned to look at him after we passed each other, and he was just standing there looking back at me and he waved. And when I took another look he was gone, poof!
Ok keep walking, maybe a little quicker to get out of this area.
My last people encounter was a friendly old guy that I wave to as he cuts his grass. One of those old school pride of ownership guys that’s out with a ruler measuring grass height. His wife has laundry out on the clothesline every Monday morning. Sweet old couple married for 110 years kind of people.
Well today he was in his car ready to back out of his driveway, when he saw me he stopped to let me go by.
So I quickened my pace and jogged behind him to get out of the way. He rolled down his window and says, “No need to hurry.”
I looked back and replied, “It’s ok, the jog will do me good.”
To which he replied, “Then carry on jogging.” With a funny sarcastic grin.
I laughed and told him, “My knees would not appreciate it.”
He laughed and said, “Have a good day!”
And of course I answered back, “Thanks, you too!”
And with that I was around the corner and back home.
My point of this article is twofold.
You can fall down or go off track 100 times, like I do with my walking routine, just be sure to get back up 101 times.
And secondly, the kindness of strangers or people you see but don’t really know, can be just what the doctor ordered to reset your mindset when you are feeling down after a life lemon strike. I felt better not just from walking but from feeling the kindness of others.
It was like the universe knew I needed a boost. Sometimes that’s all you need to lift your spirits, perfect for an introvert like me!
Life Experience Wisdom
* Just keep going, if you fall down 100 times get back up 101 times.
* Don’t be hard on yourself when you do reset.
* Say hello to your neighbors, it just may make their day, like it did mine.
That’s it for this week, thanks for stopping by,
Cheers til next week,
Grace
My Motto
When life throws baseball size lemons at you, that smack you upside the head, stomp on those damn things and make yourself a cocktail!
