Take the Detour

Take the Detour

Look at me go, I’m still on track!

I’m back to my daily walking routine and still going.   And why is this so important you ask?

Well let me tell you why.  For me walking clears my head of the cobwebs of life.  It gives me more energy to get more done in my day, instead of melting into the couch and spending too much time looking for something to watch on t.v.

It makes me want to eat better, and eat less.

I’ve given up booze, so my head feels really clear on that front as well.

Walking used to make me sleep like a rock, but I deal with insomnia a few nights a week, so I’ll just chalk that up to age and leave it at that.

But the biggest plus for me is the….happiness…well being…I can take on the world…feeling I have during and after a walk.

Quite simply I just feel good!

And even after just a few weeks I am feeling stronger and less labored while I walk.

So much so that the other day I decided to add a section onto my walk, as I’m just going around my neighbourhood for now. Bigger walks to come.

That’s where the detour part of this article comes in.

As I stood at the intersection I let my gut decide which way to go.

Which direction would lead to something to see that would be different and interesting?

So I’m told to go left (My gut and mind converse on a regular basis.)

Not ten steps on this new path, a Monarch butterfly appears and hovers around me for a few seconds and of course I talked to it.  As the Monarchs will soon be heading south to Mexico for the winter, I said “Hello there, safe travels little one.”

Now Monarch butterflies are very special to me, as I kid I collected and released them, we lived in the country, so they were released where they were born.  Hundreds used to come back at the end of the summer and gather in our maple trees before they left for Mexico.  It was like they were letting me know they were leaving and they would see me in the spring.  It really was special to see.

So seeing this on my walk was perfect.  I believe it was only the second Monarch I had seen all summer.

My point being, if I hadn’t taken the detour, I wouldn’t have seen my special little Monarch friend.

Unless you take detours in life you are going to see the same things day in and day out.  That gets boring.

As much as I like routine, I also need to take detours every once in a while.

A little shot of something new is good for the mind and soul.

Detours don’t have to be huge endeavors; just a simple detour in routine can be enough to give you a boost in your day!

Give it a try…where will your detour lead you?

Life Experience Wisdom

*  A detour can lead to something magical in your day.

*  Always listen to your gut when deciding what to do and where to go, always stay safe while detouring.

*  Be grateful for the little things shown to you on your detours in life.

That’s it for this week, thanks as always for stopping by

Cheer til next week,

Grace

My Motto

When life throws baseball size lemons at you, that smack you upside the head, stomp on those damn things and make yourself a cocktail!
