Being Content in the Moment
He who is not
content with what
he has, would not
be contented with
what he would
like to have
-Socrates
Sometimes we waste so much time worrying and wanting things we don’t have, that we completely forget to be grateful for what we do have.
But how do we get to that point of feeling content with what we already have?
First let’s recognize we can be content with what’s in our lives and we can still have dreams for goals and new experiences.
We can have both.
We just have to appreciate what’s in our lives at this given moment.
So let’s get to it.

Gratitude
First you must be grateful for what you already have. One simple way to do this is to write down one or a few things every day that you are grateful for.
Or say to yourself before you go to sleep, what you were thankful for during your day. For me today, I was thankful I got out for my walk before the rain! It doesn’t have to be an earth shaking thought, just anything you are grateful for.
Once you start doing this it becomes an easy habit to get into.
Simple Pleasures
Focus on the simple things in life that bring a smile to your face.
A sunny morning to wake up to, birds singing, or a warm soft spring breeze after a hard winter (like the one we just had.)
Focusing on simple things makes us feel good, and gives us a pick me up when we need it.
Negative to Positive
My old turn life lemons into a positive, always helps turn our mindset around and we get a feeling of contentment from being a Polly Positive instead of a Negative Nelly! Learn that you can get past the negative feelings and then you will know how much better it feels to have a positive mindset.
Stop Comparing
I think the greatest hindrance of feeling contentment is the trap we get into when we are always comparing our lives to others.
There is always going to be someone out there that has more than you do, so you might as well stop comparing and start feeling content with what you do have!
Like the quote at the beginning of this article, if you aren’t content with what you have now, why would you be content with anything more?
