Use the Good Dishes – Life is Short!

Use the Good Dishes – Life is Short!

A little reminder message this week…

The other day I had a wander through a local thrift shop.  I was looking for a planter pot for one of my new house plants.

After all my eye rolling was finished…(the words ”vintage” and “antique” attached to things I grew up with as a teenager, I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to that), I happened upon a beautiful selection of odd pieces of fine bone china.

Glorious colors mixed with gold and silver, with delicate curved handles and intricate patterns, they were really just little art pieces all on their own.

As I stood admiring them I wondered about their history.  Were they used often, or stored in a china cabinet, to be seen and only used when company came over to visit?

This made me think of my own family growing up.  We had cabinets full of “good dishes”.  We had company plates, silverware, linens and the endless double row of beautiful teacups and saucers. (They could be stacked two high to make room for more).  That only came out when we had company.

I’m sure this is where my love of colour and shiny things came from!

And of course I had my own collection when I had my own home.

Now many moons later my collection has passed on to my daughter, and I stand and wonder about a thrift shop collection…lol

Thinking of all the time beautiful items are not used because we wait for special occasions… it seems a waste!

So my lesson this week is…

Use the good dishes for crying out loud…what are you waiting for?!

Don’t wait for company to come over to enjoy the good things you have stashed in a cupboard.

Life is short!

You are the special occasion!

You deserve to use the good dishes every day!

Put yourself up on the same status level as “company.”

So pull out grandma’s china, or go buy yourself a really special piece that speaks to you, and use it every day.

You’ll revive precious memories, or start new memories to pass on….or just enjoy all on your own.

Life Experience Wisdom

*  Life is short and you are worthy to enjoy it every day.

That’s it for this week, thanks for stopping by.

I think I may revisit that thrift store and search out a teacup…or cocktail glass…that calls to me!

Cheers til next week!

My Motto

When life throws baseball size lemons at you, that smack you upside the head, stomp on those damn things and make yourself a cocktail!
